HOW TO MAKE GARNISHED SNAIL

 


A Nigerian twist on garnished snails! Here's a simple recipe to make delicious garnished snails in Nigeria:


Ingredients:

- 12 large snails, cleaned and purged

- 2 cloves of garlic, minced

- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

- 1 onion, chopped

- 2 Scotch bonnet peppers, chopped

- 1 teaspoon of ground ginger

- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin

- Salt and pepper, to taste

- 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley or basil

- 2 lemons, cut into wedges (for serving)


Instructions:

1. Prepare the snails: Rinse the snails under cold water, and pat them dry with paper towels.

2. Make the spice blend: Mix the minced garlic, chopped onion, Scotch bonnet peppers, ginger, cumin, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

3. SautΓ© the snails: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the snails and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they're lightly browned.

4. Add the spice blend: Add the spice blend to the skillet and stir to coat the snails evenly.

5. Garnish with parsley or basil: Stir in the chopped parsley or basil.

6. Serve with lemon wedges: Serve the garnished snails hot, with lemon wedges on the side.



Nigerian twists:

- Use Nigerian spices like suya pepper or yaji spice to add a local flavor.

- Add some chopped Nigerian vegetables like spinach, kale, or pumpkin leaves to the spice blend.

- Serve the garnished snails with a side of jollof rice, fried plantains, or puff-puff.
