 Exceptional Nigerian Graduate Emerges Second-Best In Mechanical Engineering At Olabisi Onabanjo University

A brilliant Nigerian student has achieved academic excellence, earning a First Class degree in Mechanical Engineering from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Abdur-Razaq Sayfullah Adebola, popularly known as "SayfuTech," distinguished himself as one of the brightest minds of his generation by graduating with an impressive 4.71 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) out of 5.00. This remarkable feat secured him the position of the second-best graduating student in his department and stands as a testament to his resilience, strategic approach, and unwavering determination.

A Journey of Dedication and Academic Excellence

Reflecting on his academic journey, Sayfullah started university with a CGPA of 3.86 after his first semester in 100 level due to receiving an "E" in a challenging four-unit course. Rather than being discouraged, he made a pivotal decision to re-strategise and commit to smart studying, day and night. 

This shift in mindset resulted in a perfect 5.00 GP in his second semester, raising his CGPA to 4.43.

His hard work paid off immensely in 200 level, when he achieved 13 A’s and one B across 14 courses, earning a 4.97 GP and pushing his CGPA to 4.63, firmly securing his First Class status. He maintained this standing through sheer discipline, culminating in his final CGPA of 4.71.

The Principles Behind His Success

Sayfullah attributed his academic achievements to three key principles:

1. Mastering the syllabus to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all course materials.

2. Understanding examination expectations, including analysing lecturers’ hints, solving past questions, and seeking clarification when needed.

3. Relentless effort and determination in tackling academic challenges head-on.

Beyond his studies, Sayfullah was deeply committed to helping others. From 200 to 500 level, he dedicated himself to conducting tutorials for junior colleagues, guiding them through complex concepts while reinforcing his own knowledge.

A Multifaceted Scholar with a Passion for Innovation

Sayfullah’s pursuit of excellence extended beyond academics. Since 200 level, he has been learning the Chinese language and has attained intermediate proficiency. Additionally, he holds a certificate in Python programming, aligning with his passion for technology and innovation.

His university years were marked by practical experience gained through internships, notably at Geoplex Drillteq Limited, Port Harcourt, where he worked in QHSE, Safety, Wireline, Slickline, and Logistics departments. 

He also honed his expertise in 3D CAD design and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), employing advanced software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, and STAR-CCM+ for his final-year project, Simulation of Heat Transfer in a Channel Using Sinusoidal Wire Insert.

A Scholar Recognised and Rewarded

Throughout his undergraduate journey, Sayfullah’s brilliance was recognised through six prestigious scholarships, including the ASUU 2024 Scholarship, the Dean of Students Affairs Award, OOUMA Scholarship (twice), Ogun State Bursary, and the Al-Fulk Scholarship Forum. 

These accolades underscore his academic excellence and commitment to continuous learning.

Aspirations for the Future

Looking ahead, SayfuTech aspires to further his knowledge in Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Robotics Engineering at the master’s level. His goal is to develop scalable solutions that contribute to global technological advancements.

As he celebrates his convocation today, 30th January 2025, Sayfullah stands as an inspiration to aspiring scholars, proving that resilience, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to excellence can lead to extraordinary achievements.

He expressed his gratitude, saying: "God bless my parents, my siblings, my lecturers, colleagues, and all my friends at large."
